Well, well, who'd a thought this day would ever come? Not I, that's for sure. To be honest, it still doesn't even feel real and I don't imagine it will until I get on the plane to Suriname early Wednesday morning, even then it won't feel like I am actually going home until I see you all again.

This week has been crazy, but thinking about it, it may just be easier to tell you about it when I see you. I feel like I will need to use hand motions and voice changes and all that stuff, written words just won't suffice haha!

So what can I possibly say for a final letter to a long long succession of weeks?

First I want you all to know that I am so excited to see you again, no matter how hard it may be to leave all this behind. I love you all so much and am ever so grateful that you will be there when I get home. It amazes me how much being away for so long in a distant country with a different family culture made me come to appreciate and love the family from which I come. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Second I want you to know that I have come to know for sure that this church is true and that obedience to commandments is the only way to true happiness, temporally and spiritually (Mosiah 2:41) and I want to hold out faithful unto the end. I have seen on my mission, if nothing else, the reality of the phrases "obedience brings blessings" and "wickedness never was happiness." The greatest joys I have felt on my mission were the moments where I saw others humbly obeying the laws of God even if they didn't fully understand them. They may not have always had the easiest of situations, but I could see the light in their eyes and the joy in their lives. Its a beautiful thing. However I have also seen the opposite. When obedience just seems too hard or too inconvenient, it broke my heart to see them not follow what they knew to be right. Often they asked themselves why they aren't happy, but it was much easier for me to see from my point of view.

I want to live with our family in happiness for eternity, and I know that it can only come through this gospel.

Third and probably greatest of all is that I love my Savior Jesus Christ. He has shown so much love and patience to me. I know He lives and loves everyone of us. We can be changed through His grace. Oh how I want to make good use of the investment of His blood and pains. I love Him.

Well, I guess that's it. I can't wait to see you and share all that has happened over the last 2 years! And by share I mean that you best be telling me stuff too!

Wish me luck!

avec amour,

Bonjour!

What a week! I'm going to just have to tell you the most part of it when I get home anyways, but I'll cover what I can. We had some sweet service for our investigater Pirtam, we filled in the canal in front of his house with dirt, it took a long time I got really sunburnt. Luckily it faded quickly, I didn't even peel. I think my skin is finally getting used to being burnt! haha The family fed us some crocodile which was sweet! It tasted mostily like chicken. A little more game-y though...

For the Suriname trip... The ride there was all pretty much the same as normal. But when we were over there we went to church on Sunday. I started to pick up a little on the Dutch, I couldn't speak so well but I could tell what people were talking about. I even got to translate for a Haitian member who couldn't speak very much Dutch. bOne of the Dutch missionaries tranlated to English then I translated into French. It was fun and kept me awake, because if I didn't have anyting else to do it would have been rough...

Then that night we went on splits with the zone leaders. I went with Elder Hood who went with us on the trip to Trinidad. We are already good friends. That was probably the best part of the whole week and a half. We sat down with the investigators and began teaching the Plan of Salvation in Dutch. The spirit was really strong, so strong in fact that Elder hood stopped translating into English for me, I was able to follow the lesson almost perfectly, he still translated into Dutch however. But it was a really cool spiritual experience of the power of the spirit.

Zone conference was good. I had to bear my dying testimony... I said everything that I had wanted to but whe I sat down I just felt like something was missing. It just didnt feel right. It was weird. But oh well... Pres. Mehr talked a lot about the Atonement but what I got most out of the conference was study techniques as he showed how he learned doctrine of the Atonement from the scriptures. It was weird seeing that I was the oldest missionary there, and the only one going home this transfer of everyone that was in Suriname, except the Mehrs. They basically talked about how great their mission was and said goodbye to all the missionaries. When I went to the interview I sat down and President asked me if I had any questions, to which I replied, "Oh boy, do I have questions!" and then he told me that he would see me next week to talk about them... I wont lie and say I wasn't a little dissappointed, but I imagine it was best that I wait until next week.

So I have my flight plans. I leave on Wednesday to Trinidad then the next day Thursday I will be seeing all your bright faces!

I love all of you!

Well thanks for the update mom! 17 days... wow (gulp)

I just finished my Returning Home with Honor paper. It was tough answering those questions! I took a little too much time though sorry...

This week was a great week for my prayers. I learned a lot of things. One of the things I learned of which I was most proud of was along the lines of Elder Eyring's talk of the "law of increasing returns" or as I studied it further, the law of the harvest. I learned that even though my mission is coming to an end, I am not yet perfect. I was stressed during the week that I have so much more growth that I need to make in my life . But in the long run, what is important is that I get faced in the right direction. I may not be perfect now, but I am making progress and I will take that direction with me after my mission. In a sense like after this life. I may not be perfected at the end of my life but I sure will be in the direction leading to perfection so that afterwords I can continue. Whereas if I flat-line I would continue afterwords in a state without progression eternally. This life is the time for us to make the choices that give us our eternal direction. Having received a desire to live the gospel to its fullness during my mission, will give me so much more direction for my life.

It makes a lot more sense in my notes with all the graphs I drew, it was a lot of fun. I love studying the gospel and plan on continuing that after the mission.

I would definitely say I have loved my mission, it is going to be very hard to go, not that I don't want to see you guys or anything, its just going to be weird to going back to normal. The mission has really been an incredible experience and it's weird that it will just be over...

Also, this Saturday we will be leaving for Suriname and we will be getting back Tuesday so emails will be Wednesday. Don't freak out. You should be used to this by now! haha!

Last zone conference! woot!

Aloha!

I've been talking with the senior couple in Trinidad as well as the Turners recently about this and that, and everybody is always so stressed that I started to answer the phone in different ways to lighten things up a bit. The common thing is "Hello this is Elder Call French Guiana" but I was tired of that so I started with Bonjour, then Aloha and Hola and Guten tag and so on. It was a long explination to my introduction but... I thought you would appreciate it. But lets get real, I imagine I could write down my weekly menu and Mom would be all giddy! haha! Love ya mom!

I'm finishing sending in my Returning Home with Honor thing, talk about stressful. I had to choose 10 photos from my entire mission to have on it. It took some time... I actually haven't finished, I took a pause and started writting your letter.

And now I am just going to finish it next week... It is taking way to long.

But this week was great. Elder Bodily has really figured out planning on his mission and I'm trying to get as much out of him while I still can, but I would have to say that planning is one of my weak spots... However we had some good planning this week and we got some good results.

A good story for the week:

We were walking down the road and a man came up with his scooter. We stopped him and started talking to him. He is from English Guyana and so we were talking in English. He invited us into his house and introduced us to his family. His wife is Native American and so speaks mostly Portugese and Native American but understands French well enough. Their kids speak all three. We shared about the Book of Mormon and they were really excited to get one, one in French and the other in English. The whole family participated in the prayer, it was really cool.

and there was Phil Collins playing in the background, super out of place....

And yeah we will be going again to Suriname for zone conference on the 13th and will be coming back the 16th. And I will be staying one or two days in Trinidad, not quite sure, but it's going to make it really difficult to get that baguette to ya if so.

I love you all a bunch and can't wait to see you soon!

avec amour,

Well I feel like this week went by really quickly and not a lot happened, I'll do my best to explain! So the first couple days ALL the members wanted us at their house to eat, because half of the missionaries were leaving and they all loved them so much (Elder Sackely and Smith were both here for most of their baptisms, they were here a long while) So Monday and Tuesday we just went to members houses most of the day. Oddly enough, when we went to a different members house, all the rest of the members were there . They said goodbye to the same people at least three times each. It was pretty tough. But now they're gone and things move on. Elder Savard and Elder Bodily got in Wednesday. It was great having somebody from each island come down so I get some updates! Martinique seems to be doing really well! They just changed up the Branch Presidency and my old area is now run by Sister missionaries (bof...) but it sounds like they are doing awesome! Some of the less active I worked so hard on seem to be coming back, it just blew my mind!

Right before Elder Smith left he gave me the run down of everything I needed to do... It's a long to do list, but Elder Bodily and I are going to be taking it a little at a time. This week we need to apply for French long stay visas for Sister Winter and Elder Chidester, as well as Suriname visas for zone conference the 15th for everybody else (except for me of course, I've got a free 5 years ;) Then we need to pay a bunch of bills for apartments, buy the truck and get it insured, talk with Trinidad to get finances for all of that, replace the Tahitians bikes, get Elder Savard's visa renewed, and the list goes on and on. But I am excited to be with Elder Bodily. Its a big change coming from Elder Smith, who was very open and talkative, to Elder Bodily who is a little more quiet. He's hilarious when you get him talking haha. During church he was telling a bunch of jokes to one of the members to try and lighten her up a bit, and she just ignored him the whole time. He told me about it and said it bothered him that she just shut him down hard. He thought he said something wrong and ruined his first impression with the member. I just laughed and told him that she's deaf! haha!

I saw a lot of cool miracles this week trying to find people to teach. Everyday the first person we talked to ended up turning into a lesson of at least 15 minutes. Possibly the most effective contacting of my entire mission.

Well, I love you all like crazy and can't wait to see you again real soon! #nottruncky

Well, things are pretty excited down here but I don't have time to talk about it so I'll just see you next week! Love ya bye!

Just kidding, It was an AWESOME week though! Valdir got baptized! His wife was so excited for him! haha! President D'abreu baptized him and we got the whole branch involved for everything else, couldn't have gone better! Now his daughter is being taught by the sister missionaries and she seems pretty willing to be baptized.

Other Big news. Transfer Calls. The Last One..... (gulp) Elder Smith is headin' out! He's going up to Morne-à-l'eau on Grande-Terre Guadeloupe to Replace Elder Bodily who is coming down here to be my last companion. For Guyane Elder Sackley is leaving too, to go to Martinique to be zone leader. He's really young for a zone leader but I can't say I didn't see it coming. Sis. Vance has finished her mission and Sis. Teney will be training. Elder Savard is replacing Elder Sackley as District leader. Lots of change down south. There are also 4 new Tahitian missionaries that come in on French side. Tahitian Take-over!

I have really enjoyed that book with daily reflection on the atonement you sent me. I've been reading a page almost everyday, and sometimes I skip to later days in the year to read because I won't get to them on my mission haha. But I have learned a lot about the Atonement recently, especially as I have been focusing on making the sacrament a spiritual experience for me personally every week. Its something Pres. Mehr told us to do. To block out the stress and problems that don't affect us directly and to really turn our thought to the Savior and to think about his Atonement. He told us to ask ourselves the question "Am I right with thee, Lord?" and to seek inspiration about what we can do more and commit and engage ourselves to work on it during the week as we take the sacrament. I have found it very helpful and a lot more meaningful as I have gone to church recently.

Its sad to see Elder Smith go so soon. We had some good times. But I think it should be pretty good with Elder Bodily, I was with him the whole time in Martinique so it should be good.

I love all of you! Have a great week and I'll see you in 5 more!

Well what can I possibly say now? I'm out of words! It was absolutely great to talk to all of you yesterday, you haven't changed a bit, and it's kinda weird... Sorry I'm not able to get you any pictures. I forgot to grab my adapter... Next week!

So if you can pull the "we just talked yesterday so it's a short letter today" card, I can too right? Because I spent a little to much time writing stuff for returning home things and what not, things I don't want to think about yet... anyways its going to be short for me too.

Think week was great, like I said we did a ton of service and are helping Valdir get ready for baptism this Saturday . He's doing well and I am really excited to see him get baptized, they are going to be a great family in the church!

This week Elder Smith and I are really going to be focusing on finding some new people to teach, so I'll tell you how it goes next week.

We get transfer calls this week, I bet Elder Smith is outta here! haha, just kidding I have no idea, but he has been here for forever! So anything could happen. We do have (should have) a lot of new missionaries coming in, because with these next couple transfers we'll be losing quite a few missionaries, around 20 these next three transfers, and that's about half of the missionaries on French side...

Well I am out of time, désolé, not the best email, but it could be worse right?

I love you all so much and I can't wait to see you soon!

avec amour,

What a week! Talk about missionary vacation! haha We were gone for way too long this week... We left Monday and got back Friday late afternoon. I am going to speed through this rapidly because, I know you want to hear all about it but I am a little behind with all those pictures I sent, your welcome ;) haha Anyways, we drove all the way over to the border of Suriname and crossed the river again without problem. The boat driver charged us way too much and the river was a little choppy so one of the ladies crossing with us was screaming at every rock and bump, but other than that I didn't have a problem. Sadly I didn't end up getting them to accept the mustachio-ed visa at the consulate, so I had to get a picture that was mustache free, it would have been legendary if it had worked... But now I have a visa that lasts 5 years to Suriname, not sure what I would possibly use that for... In Suriname we stayed with Elders Hood and Helm. They're good guys. We called them the day before and we brought them some Guyane souvenirs and they got us some things from Suriname and we had an exchange, including root beer and Reese's and other American goodies :)

We left pretty early the next morning to get to the airport 2 hours early (which is mission rule for all international flights) The airport didn't even open for another hour... so we all hung out for a good while eating some goods that we picked up with the Euros we brought (We're rich in Suriname)

The first day of the conference we were all DEAD from traveling but we leaned a lot of cool things about the Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood and watched a training for the Quorum of the Seventy by the Twelve Apostles that Pres. Mehr got special permission to watch. They talked all about the Sabbath Day, not going to lie, I felt guilty about a couple things . The Sabbath Day is really important and there are many blessings that we could miss out on if we don't use it to its most.

That night however, we stayed in the nicest Bed and Breakfast I had ever seen! When we walked in, we just died at how nice the room was. Man, I slept so good... They even made us breakfast in the morning, pancakes and eggs mmmm...

The next day we focused on branch council and getting them set up and running smoothly in our respective branches . It was really cool hearing all the insights from all the corners of the mission who come from branches with different cultures and different problems and also different solutions. I think Elder Smith and I represented French Guiana really well. I feel like the branch here is a lot farther progressed then some others.

It was also great to see everybody again. Most of them for the last time before we head out. Elder Fraley, Elder Lever, Elder Johnson, Elder Glover, and all my other good buds from the mission. The worst part of all of it was that it felt like a practice for the returning missionary fireside.... (gulp) They had a testimony meeting and everyone was talking about how great the mission was... I had to keep telling myself, "Whoa, whoa! hold up, I'm not done yet whats going on here?! I've still got some time left!" I'm not ready to die yet...

Well the rest of the time was about the same as getting to Trinidad.

At home we taught Valdir. We had fasted for him and we saw an incredible miracle. He had a complete change of heart and is now super excited for his baptism on the 16th. We were even thinking of moving it up a week, but I think we'll just leave it. He is a great guy!

Things are all fine and dandy, I'm happy to hear that I'll be home for the wedding, you had me scared there for a little while. I thought you didn't want to tell me because I wasn't going to be happy with what I heard... haha!

Love you all!
Yeah, so I had all of these pictures I use to get visas, and I didn't think I'd need them any more since I'm in my last area, so I had a little fun with them. Well, it turns out I needed to get a visa to pass through Suriname on my way to Trinidad for Zone Leadership Conference. The following picture is the visa application I submitted...

Bonjour Tout le monde!

We had another great week this week. a lot of preparing for the Suriname trip, getting visas and what not hahaha... Everything is good now and as soon as I finish this email I'll be taking the 3 hour drive to St. Laurent for the canoe ride across the river, then the 2 hour taxi ride to Paramaribo. We talked with the dutch zone leaders and it sounds like they set us up an appointement with one of their investigators that speaks French and Creole, so its not like we're abandonning missionary work or anything haha!

I emailed David and Cindy last week and they wrote me back this week! Oh man I was so happy to hear from them again haha! They're awesome... Sounds like Elder S-J is holding up strong without me!

This week we saw some pretty cool miracles. We have been working with Valdir since I had been here, his wife was baptised in March and went to visit Brazil the week before I got here. He speaks mostly Portugese which makes it a little rough to get the message across, but this week he finally accepted a baptismal invitation and a date to work towards. When His wife got home, she flipped! haha! THey both then came to church yesterday!

We found this cool Guy named José Gabriel when I first got here. He is awesome as well and we are pretty sure he's going to be in the Branch Presidency at some time. But he is still working towards baptism and came to church for the first time yesterday as well!

Before I forget the Address is:

Well well, I imagine your just dying to know how things are going down here! And the answer is: AWESOME! haha I love being back here its so much fun! The first couple days we went around seeing members and I got to catch up with them all! Most of them actually remembered me! Everyone that remembered me said the exact same thing, "Elder Cool!" (because they just can't figure out how to pronounce my name so I had to always introduced myself as that a year and ten months ago) "You're back! and you've lost weight too!" hahahaha! Man its funny, I thought I was gaining weight on the islands, guess not! Sr. D'Abreu took a picture and posted it on Facebook and everyone saw it and it spoiled the surprise for a lot of people, but it was still great seeing everyone! The branch has grown incredibly since I left! There were 27 baptisms since then and a bunch of people that came back.

My new companion is Elder Smith. He's from South Jordan and came out one transfer after me. As Zone Leaders, things are SUPER busy, because we aren't just Zone Leaders but we are also filling the role as the Senior Couple. We are in the middle of switching out the cars, so we've been car shopping and picking people up from the airport and on and on. But its been great, no time to think about how soon I'm going home, couldn't be better! We actually just learned that we are going to have a Leadership Conference in Trinidad next week. Better yet is that we will be going through Suriname! One last canoe ride! We need to get all the visa stuff figured out, which takes time, but its going to be the last time that missionaries EVER make the trip by canoe to Suriname. Since the mission is splitting, Suriname will no longer be a part of our mission, therefore, Elder Smith and I will be the last ones to ride the Maroni River to Suriname, needless to say, I'm pumped...

The work is going great! We're teaching a lot of Brazilians (I need to start learning Portuguese, surprisingly I can understand quite a bit already!) My first day we met a guy who has a HUGE house that invited us in, he is so prepared, he accepted to be baptized the first lesson and has been reading the Book of Mormon almost everyday! We just need to get him to come to church!

Well I have bunch of other things going on, but all in all, I am happy and busy and couldnt be happier!

I love you all bunches!

Have a great week!

avec amour,

What a day it has been today! Packing, saying goodbye, learning I'm going to have a SISTER-IN-LAW!!! Oh man! This is awesome congrats you two! Can't wait till I actually get to meet her!

So I imagine you've already heard everything that's going on from other missionaries, crazy isn't it!!? I never would have thought! Everything is going to be so different! We all got our transfer calls on Saturday as we were up at Abimes waiting for conference to start, so everybody was going crazy! I had to say goodbye to everyone, we took pictures I only cried once when I said goodbye to the Duflos. OK and of course when I said goodbye to the Hucs. It was tough... But now I've only got 16 hours until I fly out to go back to the land of my first inheritance, Guyane I'm comin' home! Yep I'm going back down to Guyane Française to be zone leader with Elder Smith. I don't know what to think, its not at all going to be the same! They have had so much success down there I probably won't know half of the members down there!

Conference was great! Did anybody else catch on to the marriage theme? I know Jordan did! WOOT!! haha! Follow the Prophet! Speaking of which, was Thomas S. Monson looking a lot thinner to you? Also, he stepped out early and didn't give his closing address. I hope everything is OK for him and many prayers are going out to him from the Caribbean. I listened to the whole conference in French, realizing that this may be the last time I get the chance or have the desire to do so. Did Joe listen in Spanish? I was so very hoping that Gérald Caussé was going to speak in French, but he did do his own translation. He recorded his voice beforehand and then played it for the translation as he spoke in English which was pretty cool.

I didn't get the chance to say goodbye to the Pommier family.... When I went by they weren't home and they didn't make it all the way up to Abimes.... I'm just going to have Elder Stew-J take them the package. I got the photo for David and Cindy, they loved it and already have it up at their house. We stopped by on Monday for family home evening, we couldn't make it to Pointe de Chateau, but we watched The Testaments and they loved it! It was so sad saying goodbye, especially to Mindiya. They asked for your address to send a thank you package, so that should be coming. I also am sending one, sorry, its mostly filled with letters and old study material that's too heavy to take with me, but there is some stuff I got for you all, so keep your eyes open for those.

Well, time is coming to an end and I feel like I'm flying to my death, I'm going to die in the wilderness... (mission death) I couldn't be happier, nor could I be sadder. I'm not quite sure how I feel right now, but things are good no worries!

I love you all so much! Family and soon-to-be family ;)
Zone conference was last Sunday and we had our interviews this Tuesday. It was nice, nothing to exciting but I felt good talking to the president, he told me that he's going to move me this transfer which will be next week. He also told me about the deal with getting home. I'll be going home the same day as Elder Fraley. They are cutting my last transfer a week short so that the new presidents don't come in on a weird mid transfer thing. So I'm getting shorted a week...
Yesterday was an awesome Sunday, one of my favorites on the mission. It was a fast and testimony meeting and everybody had a chance to share. The spirit was so strong, especially when David got up and bore a testimony about trials of faith that he had and how he was thankful that they brought him closer to God. Afterwards everybody talked about trials. It was very powerful. Then he helped me teach the gospel principles class and bore an awesome testimony on baptism. It was really cool. I felt very thankful to be a part of this branch, and with general conference next week, it may have been the last Sunday I get to see everybody.
Sr. Duflo got called to be the Sunday School teacher, the Pommiers are going through interviews with the Branch President and should be getting callings soon as well. Its just great. I love these people! We went to the Duflo's house last night and sang some hymns. Sr. Duflo wanted to come with us to help teach some people. Its most definitly one of the places that I want to come back and visit after the mission. Its going ot be very hard to say goodbye. David and Cindy keep asking if I can get permission to spend a whole day with them haha, we are going to try to drive to Pointe de Chateau next P-day (which is actually going to be on Tuesday next week so don't freak out, because of the holiday everything will be closed and we won't be able to email until Tuesday)

What a weekend! On Friday we drove up to pick up Elder Christensen, an assistant, who came and worked with us for a day. We planned out the entire day and had some 50 back ups for all our rendez-vous, all of which fell through. It really bummed me out, but Elder Christensen was a good sport and helped us contact a lot of people even though he couldn't speak French haha. The best part was when Fr. Potin came with us and we split up. Elder S-J took the assistant and taught, mostly by himself because he was the only one who could communicate with people, while I went to do a training with one of our members. I heard he did really well! When we met back up at the boulevard he was teaching one of our less actives and Fr. Potin bore an incredible testimony. I felt the spirit so strong! I love that guy!

The next day we drove up to Capesterre for the Baptism of "Jackie" Chan. He was the guy that I did the baptismal interview for a while ago. It was great, not many people showed up because it was the district relief society activity the same day. But I was very happy for him, as well as the sisters. They've been working hard, and he was really happy as well. We stayed in Capesterre last night to save us from having to drive up again this morning to email. That's why I'm on so early today.

For the Zone conference the next day, we drove up early the Sunday morning for the church service. I missed the meeting at Basse-Terre, I missed David bless the sacrament for the first time :( But I hear it went well. We spent the whole day aux Abimes. The zone conference was great, we talked a lot about the atonement. I didn't get to take notes because I translated. I love, love, love translating! Its so hard, but so fun! Too bad there won't be much translating for me to do in French when I get back home.

Sorry I got to go! I got too distracted with the other things that I didn't get to talk more about conference!

Love you lots!

Since your all speaking the espanol I thought I'd join in! haha I hope you had a great time in Mexico! I could go for some nice toastadas or some Hangman street tacos right now, with some Oaxaca cheese....mmmm memories! haha

Updates on the eastern coast: Zone conference will be this Sunday, and, well... I'm not quite sure what else to add to the list, I guess I'll just move on. But for zone conference, its going to be rapid fire because Elder Cornish (area president) will be blowing through the islands faster than an iguana climbing a tree. Its going to ALL be on Sunday. We will have church in the morning at Abîmes, then zone conference right after and then the member fireside right after that. Should be a crazy day. I'll be at the church building the entire day.

ALSO! Dd you see David and Cindy's picture on the mission newsletter? Alright!!

Recently I've been trying to focus a lot more on training the members. I realized that if we want to have anymore progress we need a better foundation. I've finally gotten my hands on a Handbook 2 and have been studying according to the members callings. I started with Fr. Duflo (Branch Mission Leader) and gave him the responsibility to call the other members of the branch council and fix appointments for us to stop by their house to do training for their callings. It went very well! He's gotten a hold of everyone within 2 days and we now have rendez-vous for this week and next week to talk about our member's calls. I wanted to simply go to their house and start talking about their responsibilities, most of the time when we ask if we can help, they say no. I assume it is because they don't know how we can help. So as we talk about theirs callings, we'll be able to find questions that come up and give engagements to help them further the work in their specific area . I'm going to be talking with Fr. Abenzoar (1st counselor in the branch) and try to get him helping us with the training so that we can get some follow ups going between everyone.

The baptismal interview was a very interesting and spiritual learning experience for me. I was very nervous going into the interview, because the man said that if he didn't get baptized that weekend he'd never come back and would not be happy. So yeah, I was pretty nervous, because I felt like he should wait a little longer. But during the interview I could see the Holy Ghost soften his heart and when he left he was smiling and determined to be ready the next time. I just did his next interview yesterday and he has changed quite a bit and the baptism should be for this weekend.

As for Elder Stewart-Johnson and I things are going well. We have been taking more time to have fun together which I believe is something that we were missing. He has made a lot of progress with his French. Being a trainer makes me really appreciate how much the Lord has blessed me through my mission. Being able to see Elder S-J at the beginning as I approach the end has made me realize how far I have come and the things that I have learned. It has been a miraculous year and 3/4, hopefully the Lord has some more tuning to give me, before shipping me back home.

I love you all a ton!

I'm really sorry that you aren't going to be getting the super long letter I imagine you were waiting for in Mexico, but I need to go do a baptismal interview with a man from Goyave who wants to get baptized this Saturday. We have been having trouble scheduling a time to meet because of distance and today is the only day he has off of work this week. I judged that his salvation is worth more than my P-day... sorry.

This week went really well, we had a ton of people to see and members to work with us, but things just kept falling through. I'm not sure what it was but we just couldn't catch a break. But we did see some improvement with Fr.Théor, an inactive, he finally read the BoM on his own this week! That's never happened in such a long time!!

Well they're calling me, I gotta go! Sorry! Enjoy Mexico! I'll talk to you next week!

avec amour,

How are things on the mainland!? Just to go quickly with your question, yes that would be perfect to send the picture frame, another good one that I like was one of them hugging out in the water, not sure if I sent that on or not. Either one would work though! Merci buckets!

This week went by tranquillement. Something fun, or well interesting I would say, is that for language study this week we picked out 50 words in the house and put up sticky notes everywhere with the French translation and practiced them all week then took a quiz on Sunday. If we pass we get to buy Agoulous during the week. We are also going to go without English more and more. This week we went all Sunday with no English, next week we're going to go 2 days with no English, and so on and so forth until the last week of the transfer we won't speak any English. Should be good!

We also had a really cool experience with Sr. Gouanvé this week. We were at her house talking to her when her friend rang the door bell. Sr. Gouanvé invited her in to talk with us. Apparently she had been talking to her about the gospel and how it can help her in her life. She sat her down and turned to us and said, "Well, go on, do your thing" haha The best part was that she kept saying, "Tell her about Joseph Smith! Tell her about Joseph Smith!" But when we started talking about the first vision, Sr. Gouanvé jumped in and almost recited the whole thing from memory. I was so impressed and amazed at how excited she was to share the gospel! Her friend Annik even came to church with her yesterday!

Well the internet place is deciding to close, so I don't have much time. I love you all so very much! Have a great week! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRI! Tell everyone I say hi... No, tell them I say Bonjour! ;)

Cabo? Didn't you just get back from Hawaii? And I thought I was going crazy with plane flights all the time, guess I'm not the only one!

It's transfer week and I'll be staying here in Basse-Terre with Elder Stewart-Johnson for another round! Pres. Mehr told me that he wanted to keep us here to help set up the branch, I'm pumped! I really wanted to spend some more time with everyone here a bit more, especially David and Cindy. Elder Okano will be going up to Baie-Mahault with Elder Drennan AND Elder Ehlert; Elder Broadbent and Elder Glover are going to St. Martin. Elder Riviera is coming to be with Elder Lever in Capesterre. Which is all that concerns my island. I'm not too sure what else is going on in the mission. I heard Elder Dayton is going to be with Elder Boadbent on St. Martin and Elder Hatch is going down to Guyane. Other than that I don't know. Let me know what you find out, because I assume you'll be reading everybody's letters...

As for the week, everything was relatively calm, Carnival ended. We are back to the doors trying to find everyone the Lord is preparing, and I know they're out there, I just need to be ready like with David and Cindy.

Yesterday when we got to church it felt somewhat empty, our numbers were low and I felt terrible. I prayed and asked the Lord what more I could've done to help. I feel like I have been giving it my all. Then I thought of all the people that weren't there and prayed for them, that they were OK and that they would want to come. Just as I finished the Pommier family walked in. I was so happy to see them get to church again! I love these people!

Elder Stewart-Johnson and I are doing well. Our companionship studies have gotten really good. We found some topics that we both are interested in and have shared study tactics and are now studying questions together. I have never had great topic study with a companion before, it always turned into separate studies on the same topic, but we've been doing well.

We haven't seen Johanna for 2 weeks now, she was sick on Sunday. We brought up baptism after she said that she knew the Book of Mormon was true. Since then it has been a struggle to get a hold of her because we set up rendez-vous through Sr. Abenzoar, and if one or the other isn't available it doesn't happen. But she has loved coming to church and asks all the right questions!

Tonight we should be going to the Huc's house to have Raclettes! They invited their friend and everything, its going to be great!

I love you all! Have a great week! Soyez prudent!

Sorry you're just getting this email today on Tuesday, yesterday all the email places were closed because of Carnival and the place where we usually go was in Carnival central, but the sisters convinced their friends that own this place in Goyave to open shortly for us. So here I am, I don't have a lot of time but it was a great week! David and Cindy were baptized!!!

This week was crazy. We tried to see the David and Cindy everyday this week. It was tough but we did good. They have been reading and praying as a family and they are just perfect. David wanted me to baptize him and Cindy wanted Elder S-J to baptize her because I gave David his Book of Mormon and the same for the others haha. The day of the baptism we met at the church before we went out to the ocean for the ordinance. The day was beautiful and sunny, but not hot. I will be honest I was pretty nervous going up to it. I mean, I had no idea what I what I was doing. But everything worked out just fine. I was sort of expecting to have an incredible, over-powering, spiritual experience during it, but I didn't. I felt good, calm, and at peace. Nothing spectacular, nothing unnecessary. It just felt right. The best part was seeing David giving Cindy a hug after she stepped out of the ocean.

The confirmation on Sunday was also great. We had a bunch of people at church and I am talking with Pres. Mehr about turning the group into a branch, and we are trying to take the next steps. I'm really excited for this area. Good things are coming in the future. We are teaching Johanna, Sr. Abenzsoar's friend that she invited to church a while back. She has come 3 times now and is reading the Book of Mormon, but has recently been really busy. She even shared the Book of Mormon with her boyfriend, who has read a little himself!

Things are great on the islands, I'm happy as can be. Thank you everybody for your prayers and support, I love you all. Faith can move mountains!

Transfers calls are this Saturday so I'll be telling you whats going on next Monday.

How is everybody! just to let you know the baptism was not scheduled for last Saturday, but THIS Saturday. So if you all can keep David and Cindy in your prayers that would be amazing. I don't think I have prayed for anyting more in my life.

Things are going good other than that. David and Cindy had their baptismal interviews on Thursday. It went well and now we just have to keep going to Saturday. They were really sick yesterday and couldn't make it all the way up to Catpesterre for fast Sunday, but we are going to try and see them everyday up to Saturday.

I really don't have much else to say about this week. Nothing too extravagant happened. My studies have been going really good. I started a thing were I write down all the titles of Christ that I find and their references. I have only gotten through 2 Nephi and the list is pretty substancial. I have really loved studying the Gospel and plan to keep studying the rest of my life. The scriptures have opened up my understanding so much. Even though it may take a long time to get answers and sometimes we don't get the answers that we are looking for but they come in due time. Who's up for some companionship studies when I get home?! I'm pumped to share what I've learned but it would probably take too long for email format and I'm just going to wait until I get home to get real in depth.

I've had some fun with finding French idioms and sharing them with members haha. There's one that I use all the time. "Revenons-en à nos moutons" which means literally "lets get back to our sheep" basically it means to get back on subject. I use it just about every night during nightly calls with the other missionaries because I enjoy getting off topic too much haha. I shared it with Fr. Duflo, he understood which made me super happy haha!

Last night we went to the Duflos house and sang hymns on their front porch. I love singing hymns. Ever since you sent me that article about memorizing hymns I have been going crazy with them. I've memorized around 50 already. Its going to be so hard to come back and have to sing in English again. To be honest I kinda like the hymns better in French.... haha! So thanks for that article, it helped me a bunch!

Hope you all have a great week!

Hope things are A-OK stateside! Things are going pretty good still over here! Even though today was a little stressful. We had to stay over at Lamentin with Elder Johnston and Telga so we could get up early to take the car into the shop. Afterwards we were stuck in Jarry until we could get picked up after 2 hours. Then we had to grab our stuff and bus it all the way back to Basse-Terre.... and when we got here the power was out so we had to wait to email... That's why this letter is so late. It was a rather stressful P-day, and tomorrow we're going to have to take another bus back up to pick the car up.... Should be fun.

On the good side, the week went well. Yes we had an area conference of a sort. President Packer, Elder Holland, and Sis. Oscarson gave some great talks. They also said they were going to be going around the islands sometime, but they never said which ones.... Fingers crossed they stop by Guadeloupe! The conference was great but it was aux Abîmes so it was difficult to get people from our area up there.

David and Cindy are doing great! David just drove by in his car as we were walking to the Cyber-Base and waved to us. I like that guy! Haha Cindy had some struggles with her driving test, the instructor failed her on some little thing and she wasn't very happy about it. She had enough points in the test to have her pass but the instructor wouldn't let her get her license because of the one mistake. So she was a little upset the last time we saw her. But normally their interview for baptism will be this Thursday. David reads the Book of Mormon all the time, its incredible to think that he didn't even believe in God before we met him.

Teaching French is super challenging! It makes me really appreciate that I can speak now. Elder S-J is a great missionary and French is all that he has to work on. I don't know how I am doing as a trainer, I think I am doing alright... Sometimes I forget I'm training, he's just so great!

We finished up cutting all the trees down on the church property, my hands got pretty blistered from swinging the machete so much. Maybe you should invest in a machete! It makes weeding a lot easier!

Not sure what else to say about this week. We are in week 4 and the transfer ends 28 Fevrier. Its blowing by! I just realized I have 3 transfers left after this one! Holy cow! I keep forgetting and then remembering just about every Monday haha!

Well that's about all I can think of this week! Have a good one!

We actually didn't get many lessons, but we had a lot of member work and we are seeing things moving forward rather quickly. Monday night we went out to try and see Fr. Didier, a less active who is nearly impossible to get a hold of. Apparently he's been having a lot of personal struggles and decided to send us a text asking us if we could pass by. Sadly, Elder S-J and I forgot the phone in the car as we went out working, so we didn't get it, but the second he sent it was the second that we knocked on his door! He came outside and asked us if we had gotten his message and we just said, "Haha... we forgot our phone in the car... why?" We talked with him and gave him a blessing because he was sick and he has asked us to send him a scripture passage every day to help him come back to church. I was so amazed. The Lord is very good at doing his work. He came to church yesterday which made a fifth Melchizedek priesthood holder at the Basse-Terre group.

After church we went home teaching with Fr. Duflo who has just gotten back to full activity. We saw Fr. Didier and he testified with all his heart that it is worth it to go through the repentance process. I was so filled with love for these people I almost started crying. We are seeing miracles down here and I will be eternally grateful to the Lord for letting me be a part of it. I love these people so much! Basse- Terre is most definitely one of the places I want to come back to after the mission.

Another miracle is that Sr. Samuel has been coming back to church as well. I didn't even do anything there. I haven't even been able to see her outside of church, but Fr. Duflo saw her in the city one day and asked if he could pick her up for church. Its now been 2 weeks in a row that she has come and is planning on teaching the Sunday school lesson the next week we are in Basse-Terre!

We also did quite a bit of service this week. Friday night we stopped by the Nerellep family to see how they were doing. Oddly enough, again we forgot the phone, and again we showed up right as they called our phone. They wanted us to help them some more with the renovation of their house. So we helped them move some furniture. Then the next morning the Branch priesthood men met at David and Cindy's to help them cut down some trees and fix up their garden. It was super fun. Mindya, their 4 year old daughter and I picked up the cut branches. haha She's so funny! She started ordering me around telling me which branches to pick up, "THE BIGGEST ONE!" haha We are basically best friends now.

Well I hope you liked this one I had a lot to say this time around!

I hope everyone is safe and sound.
I didn't expect to get a letter from the world famous "Big Momma" this week! haha! Big Momma is apparently Nate's backyard sports name Thank you very much Dad! haha I loved the letter! I couldn't help laughing as I was reading and everybody in the library was giving me weird looks.

This week went by really well, we had a family home evening with the Pommiers, she loved the letter that Mom sent! She wants to send mom a letter. I love that family so much, I feel so happy every time that I am over there. At church yesterday we had a group meal afterwords and everybody had a great time. I really, really love these people I just cant explain it... Fr. Abenzoar has been helping us a bunch with the missionary work. He introduced us to all his family and we are going to start teaching his sisters soon. Fr. Potan got his calling as 1st counselour in the Elders quorum. Things are going good. David and Cindy's baptismal date was changed to the 14 February so that we have time to get all the lessons in before the baptismal interview. David is crazy for cookies now, we also went runnning with him in the morning.

Here are some answers to your questions:

There are only 2 AP's in Trinidad, none are French side AP's, ever. They stay one transfer in their actual area and then the next one is spent flying around the mission for zone conferences. There are 4 French zones Grand-Terre, Basse-Terre, Martinique, and Guyane Française.

I have had one baptismal interview. I was super nervous but she did very well, she had studied the entire week to get ready for the interview. Now she is baptised and is doing very well.

President Mehr sent us a quote from Neal A. Maxwell this week that I really enjoyed.

"One reason to 'search the scriptures' is to discover these sudden luxuriant meadows of meaning, these green pastures to nourish us in our individual times of need. The Book of Mormon surely has its share and more of these...

"For my part, I am glad the book will be with us 'as long as the earth shall stand.' I need and want additional time. For me, towers, courtyards, and wings await inspection. My tour of it has never been completed. Some rooms I have yet to enter, and there are more flaming fireplaces waiting to warm me. Even the rooms I have glimpsed contain further furnishings and rich detail yet to be savored. There are panels inlaid with incredible insights and design and décor dating from Eden. There are also sumptuous banquet tables painstakingly prepared by predecessors which await all of us. Yet, we as Church members sometimes behave like hurried tourists, scarcely venturing beyond the entry hall to the mansion.

"May we come to feel as a whole people beckoned beyond the entry hall. May we go inside far enough to hear clearly the whispered truths from those who have 'slumbered,' which whisperings will awaken in us individually the life a discipleship as never before." ("The Book of Mormon: A Great Answer to 'The Great Question', pp. 13-16)

We just barely started over our reading for the Book of Mormon. I finished my Book in which I was marking everything about Jesus Christ (it was full and was also the reason why I need a purple marker, because Christ's words were purple, and there are a lot) This round through the Book of Mormon I will be searching for the steps of repentance. Something I have noticed already is why Laman and Lemuel never really changed. Sure they felt sorry for what they did, they even "humbled themselves before the Lord" and confessed that what they did was wrong, but they never committed themselves to change. Repentance is not a punishment, nor is it just feeling bad for having done something. It is truly a change. Laman and Lemuel felt bad and were punished plenty of times and yet did not repent fully because they did not change.

I love you all!
Have a great week!

Well you're right, I did have my "Jump Day" on Saturday. 18 months as a missionary! And yes its true, the transfer is over this week, one down with Elder S-J. Its been going by super quick... I guess. Its all seems the same to me now. We'll be staying the same, no surprises. Sr. Vance will be going down to Guyane Française and Sr. Bailey will be replacing her. Elder Peterson our zone leader is going to Martinique to be with Elder Lewis and Elder Telga the assistant is going to be our zone leader now (he's the missionary from Martinique) Its going to be super fun with him here! He's only got 2 transfers left and he'll be going home, and then the Martinique branch will explode!

The terrorist attacks were a big deal here, just as I assume they were everywhere. If people talk about anything it would be that, or carnival which is going on right now as you know... which reminds me. Last night as we were driving through the city, everything was quiet and calm, when out of nowhere comes a parade of kids playing drums and cracking whips. They turned the corner right in front of us. We waited at the stop sign for maybe 2 minutes as they passed and then carried on our way. Just another day on Guadeloupe!

We had some fun on Saturday when Fr. Abenzoar asked us to come clean up the church property. We were there for a good 2 and a half hour hacking at vines and trees with machetes, it was super fun, but I got some pretty gnarly blisters which made it hard to shake hands at church on Sunday. haha!

Friday night we got to do something really different. David was invited to sing in a production for disabled kids about non-violence. We got permission to go listen to his song and support him. It was pretty cool. We need to get some lessons in with him though because we are a little behind if we want to make it to his baptismal date for the 24th.

I do know Elder Creech, he was the assistant while I was in Guyane and for the fist part in Martinique. That's interesting that dad's nurse knew him and he remembered me. Say hello from me. I only saw him three times or so, but he did cross the river to Suriname with me in the same canoe, which is definitely not something you just forget right?

I also finished translating the letter for Sr. Pommier, more like a novel really, but she loved it! She wants to write you back so there might be something coming!

Well, I love all of you very much! Thank you for your prayers!

So we had another great week this week! Once again the Pommier family the Duflo family and David came to church, that makes three weeks in a row! David and Cindy are progressing very nicely. They are very humble and open. They come to church and participate and the members have brought them in so lovingly, its incredible! They continue to be very involved in the lessons and are keeping engagements very well. Cindy wasn't able to come to church because sick with her pregnancy, she is going to get tests done today and they are going to be finding out if there are maybe twins. I love this family a bunch! We are going over tonight and I am going to teach them how to make cookies for family home evening.

It's been really funny being with Elder Stewart-Johnson! He's such a great guy! He hasn't quite adjusted to the missionary eating schedule yet (which isn't very scheduled, its more of, we'll eat if we find time) I have gotten so habituated to it that it doesn't bother me if a meal goes missed because something unplanned comes up, but he gets very worried if we miss a meal haha! This morning we had to get up early because we were hiking to the first Chute du Carbet. Naturally I chose sleep over breakfast, but as the alarm went off he was up and cooking, so as soon as I finished saying my morning prayer he was shoving food in my face. I just looked at him all, "Elder, its 4:30 in the morning, I don't know what you want me to do with this..." I still just can't eat that much in the morning, my stomach just can't take it. But he chowed down.

Well... I'm not really sure what else to say... hope you all have a great year, I'll be seeing you soon! Crazy! I've got 5 days until I've reached my sister missionary mark... getting close!
